Amazon Survival Training Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Transfer from Iquitos to the Jungle Lodge
This morning you can arrange to have your transfer pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Iquitos.
You’ll take a speedboat up the Amazon and into the Tahuayo tributary, which is about a four-hour trip. You’ll arrive at the wilderness lodge in time to take an evening excursion.
Overnight Location: Wilderness lodge in Paraiso
Meals: Lunch, dinner
Day 2 Choice of Excursions and Jungle Survival
While you’re spending time at the lodge, there are many excursions for you to choose from. The wildlife viewing ones come highly recommended!
Your guides will take you hiking through the surrounding flood plain or “varzea” forest. You’ll start learning how to identify native plants for their medicinal uses, as well as how to find sources of food and fresh water.

Day 3 Choice of Excursions and Survival Lessons
Today brings another chance to take a tailored excursion. Choose between ropes courses in the canopy, cruising the river to find pink dolphins, or fishing for piranha.
Afterwards, it’s back into the jungle to learn how to make your own snares and fishing equipment.

Day 4 Forest Hike and Camping
Today, a boat will take you and your two guides to the terra firme forest, where you’ll begin your hike into the trees. You’ll learn how to identify the best place to camp and how to build a shelter from the resources around you.
You’ll be spending these two days learning all about how to use natural materials to build important survival tools. You’ll also learn how to locate fresh sources of water and the best wood for starting a fire.

Day 5 Building Tools and Locating Water
Your lessons continue today as you refine your ability to find fresh water (hint: try the immature yarina fruit), catch and prepare food, and build fires. You’ll even try your hand at preparing your own raft with materials from the forest.
Enjoy another night camping in the wilderness after you’ve mastered your newfound skills. Did you know you can use barbasco sap to stun fish? You do now!

Day 6 Return to Lodge
This morning you’ll have some time to do a little more exploring and practice your new jungle skills. After breaking down camp you’ll return to the lodge by boat.

Day 7 Jungle Trek and Departure
This morning, take a final trek into the jungle to show off what you’ve learned. You’ll be picked up and taken back to Iquitos by boat in the afternoon.
