Trekking the Southern Åre Mountains Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival and Transfer to Vallbo
To begin your tour, you’ll take the train to Undersåker, a lovely small mountain village. You’ll be driven from here to Vallbo, which is hidden further inside the mountain range. An authentic guesthouse welcomes you, and you can enjoy a walk around before a delectable three-course dinner featuring ingredients from the forest is served.

Day 2 Issjödalen and the Pyramids
Enjoying your breakfast in mountain paradise, prepare for your first day of trekking. You’ll be hiking to one of the most interesting geological feature in the Swedish mountains, the Pyramids. These formations were slowly carved away over thousands of years by retreating glaciers, leaving erosion dales, springs, and pits behind.
Eat lunch overlooking the valley before descending back down to Vallbo, where another big dinner is waiting.

Day 3 Wading to Ottsjö
After breakfast, don your backpack and set out for two days of hiking. If the conditions allow, you’ll complete a long wade across Lake Ottsjön (don’t worry, it’s shallow!). If the conditions aren’t good to wade, you’ll skirt the lake on dry land.
Hike uphill to Ottsjö village to your accommodations, where dinner will be served.

Day 4 Trek to Lykans Läger
You’ve been sleeping right under Hållfjället, but today you’ll be getting on top of it! Hike up over this peak and neighbouring Grofjället in the morning, earning great views over the rivers and valleys below. Then, you’ll continue to Lykans Läger in the afternoon, a spot with two remote cabins perched on a lovely hilltop overlooking the nearby lake. Borrow the boat to fish, relax in the sauna, or just kick back by the lake. This is a perfect taste of true life in the Swedish wilderness.

Distance: 14-20km, 360m elevation gain

Day 5 Views over Edsåsdalen
Rising in your cozy remote cabin, prepare to trek along the valley, rising up to a high plateau with spectacular views. There’s an old Sami settlement here, and lunch will be served outside their tipi.
After lunch, follow a path over Lillvalen to Edsåsdalen, a favourite ski spot among locals. You’ll be picked up here and taken to Undersåker, where you’ll have hot showers and a well-earned dinner to look forward to.

Day 6 Departure
