St. Francis Way Assisi to Spoleto Walking Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Assisi
Begin your journey in Assisi, which is situated on slopes, and explodes with medieval tales and remarkable monuments. Be sure to visit the grave of St. Francis of Basilica Crypt. It’s also essential to try Rocciata here—it’s a delicious dessert that emulates the strudel.

Day 2 Hike to Spello
Today’s 14.5 km hike blends spirituality and medieval monuments. After hiking towards the summit of Monte Subasio, you’ll stop at Eremo delle Carceri, the caves where Franscesco used to meditate. Meander through the woods before reaching San Benedetto Abbey, which harks back to the IX century. Continue trekking until you reach Spello, where more medieval tales await.

Day 3 Explore Spello, walk to Vegnole
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, spend the morning exploring the numerous historical monuments scattered across Spello: Municipal Palace and Santa Maria Maggiore church. Eventually, you’ll begin your 10 km trek to Vegnole, passing rolling vineyards and fields of olives en route.

Day 4 Walk to the land of olive oil: Trevi
Enjoy a yummy breakfast before taking a short transfer to Uppello. Begin by embarking on a steep incline to Rocca of Scandolaro. Eventually, the path will unfold into a grove of oak trees. Stop in Trevi, where it’s worth tasting their delicious olive oil. Continue until you reach Bovara di Trevi.

Day 5 Meander the original “Francis Way”
Get ready to walk the same path St. Francis walked! The trail begins from Bovara di Trevi and continues until you arrive at Campello Alto. Admire the Spoleto valleys rolling beside here. Enjoy a brief stop at the convents of Pissignano and Campello, which sit amid lush olive trees. Bask in the tranquil, soothing vibes saturating the air.

Day 6 Walk to Spoleto
Today marks your last day of twisting through Umbria’s remarkable, lush countryside. After a delicious breakfast, start by walking along a narrow path that will carry you to another remnant of history: the Santa Maria di Reggiano. Marvel at the centuries-old frescos adding colour to the walls. Continue your journey and pass by Eggi, a quaint village that sits amid olive groves, and walk along the old railway line until you reach Spoleto. For a more memorable introduction to the city, opt to detour and walk above the Tessino stream and the towering ancient aqueduct, and enjoy lovely views of Spoleto below.

You are provided all the information on which direction you need to go daily.
