Day 1 Arrival in Aosta
Start your hiking trip of Valle d’Aosta in Aosta, a town nestled into an imposing mountain valley. The town is filled with remnants of the Romans, so peek through theatres, snap a photo of the Arch of Augustus, and revel in the peaceful atmosphere.

Day 2 Walk From Thouraz to Homene Dessus
A car transfer will take you to the charming hilltop village of Thouraz, where today’s adventure begins. You’ll stroll through flower-filled meadows with sweeping views of the valley and surrounding peaks. Your day ends with a warm welcome at your accommodation just outside the village of Vetan.

Day 3 Vetan round walk to Fallere Lake
This route is quite challenging due to the elevation gain involved. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the valleys and peaks around Gran Paradiso. For an added adventure, consider a detour to Lake Fallere. Remind customers to check the weather forecast before setting off!

Day 4 Walk From Vetan to Vens
For the next leg of your hiking trip through Valle d’Aosta, you’ll travel west above the valley. Traverse up to the pastures where Fontina and Toma cheeses are made. Then, hike down the slopes into the quaint mountain villages below. Make sure you try the local cheese with dinner tonight!

Day 5 Hike from Saint Nicolas to Pointe Oilletta
Today, you’ll hike from Vens over abandoned gold mines to Oilletta Peak, 2,616m above sea level. The views up here are sublime, and you can see all the way over to the impressive Mont Blanc.

Distance: 5 hours, 12 km, 963m elevation gain

Day 6 Hike from Saint Nicolas to Villeneuve
Today, you’ll descend to the Dora Baltea River, where a welcome flat section lets you appreciate the change in vegetation and landscape fully. Pass by vineyards (maybe even stop in at one!), castles, churches, and lovely towns. You’ll travel to Cogne by bus or car to unwind the rest of the evening, perhaps with a hearty plate of pasta.

Day 7 Lillaz loop
Start the morning with a hike to Lillaz, a beautiful mountain town. Feel the mist of the nearby waterfalls on your skin before resting for a moment at Loie Lake. Dip your feet in the cold, clear waters before hiking up past more lakes to the Urtier Valley. After a blissful day, you’ll be bussed back to your hotel.

Day 8 Hike Gimillan to Colle Tsa Setse and back
The last full day of your hiking adventure through Valle d’Aosta begins on a lovely trail to Colle Tsa Setse. Keep an eye out for alpine marmots (and keep your snacks secure) as you admire views across Gran Paradiso. You’ll descend back through the cool forest, and then it’s time to relax with dinner and a glass of local wine.

Yes. You will need to acquire travel insurance that covers hiking/walking. Get your Travel Insurance.
You can fly into Turin (TRN). It is recommended that you arrive in the morning or afternoon. From the Turin airport, take the train to Porta Susa. From there, take another train to Aosta, where you’ll take the Aosta-Maritgny line to Etroubles. Here, you can arrange a ride to Aosta from the hotel owner for a modest fee.
No, you will be provided with maps, route guides, notes, and 24/7 telephone support to complete your self-guided tour.
Self-guided travelling is not difficult! For many, it is a preferred type of travel as you are in charge of your own time and pace. You are provided all the information on which direction you need to go daily. You don’t need to carry lots of things with you and can only carry your daypack, as your luggage will be picked up from your hotel daily in the morning and delivered to your destination hotel.
The tour ends in Cogne, where you can take the bus to Aosta and then the train to Turin. It is recommended that you book an early afternoon flight back.
