Cruise the Orang Utan River Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive and Set Sail
Your river adventure begins today as you arrive at Palangkaraya Airport and transfer to the harbour to start your journey. Boarding local canoes, you will observe orangutans in their natural habitat on the island of Pulau Kaja, before heading to an education centre to learn more about how they live in the wild.
Returning to the harbour, you will board Rahai’i Pangun for lunch and cruise upstream. Here, you will transfer in vehicles to the historic towns of Bukit Rawi and Sigi to receive a Dayak welcome and learn about their history. Return to the boat and cruise downstream to moor overnight in a quiet location.

Day 2 Lake Begantung and Tumbang Nusa Village
Early in the morning, you will take motorized canoes to visit the Blackwater Lake Bagantung, a peatland swamp ecosystem that is home to countless animal and bird species. Returning to the boat, you will cruise downstream to Tumbang Nusa village, where you will take a walking tour and witness traditional livelihoods like ‘purun’ weaving. You will also visit a local honey farm. Afterwards, the boat will continue downstream, passing the forested Selat and Badak islands, where you will have the chance to spot some more orangutans.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Day 3 Village of Pilang and Rattan Weaving
This morning the boat will continue downstream to the village of Pilang, where you will take a walk through the forest to see a rubber field & rubber tapping demonstration and other village activities like rattan weaving. Visit the village elder’s house and enjoy a traditional spiced coffee or herbal tea. Back on board, you will enjoy lunch and cruise upstream, passing the orangutan island and entering into the Nusa Canal. The boat will be moored in a quiet location overnight.

Day 4 Cruise to Palangkaraya and Depart
Enjoy your final morning onboard with breakfast and a smooth morning cruise to the village of Pusaka, where you will learn local self-defense techniques. After saying farewell to the villagers, you will continue on to Palangkaraya to wrap up the tour. Transfer to the airport to depart.

This partially guided cruise is always run as a group tour, and you’ll be sharing the excursions and activities with other travellers onboard the ship. Please note that the prices might be higher during the Indonesian National Holidays.
