Cycling the Via Verde of Catalonia Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Alcañiz
Arrival in Tortosa by train. Transfer from Tortosa to Alcañiz (1h30min). Delivery of rental bikes and orientation session where your bike will be specially fitted out for you and all the documentation and everything you will need for your trip will be provided.

Day 2 Crossing the Matarraña River to Horta de Sant Joan
After breakfast, set out along a peaceful side road to Valdealgorfa. This is a perfect stop for a coffee! Next, it’s off along a lush greenway lined by olive groves and vineyards. You’ll cycle a long viaduct that crosses the Matarraña River, a highlight of today’s ride.
Arrive in Horta de Sant Joan, where Picasso used to spend his summers. There’s a little museum here dedicated to his works, so swing by before dinner.

Day 3 Nature Reserve of Els Ports
Today’s going to be a scenic one! Begin by following the greenway along the canyon of a nearby river. Several tunnels and viaducts are hints of the area’s railroad past. Ride through the Nature Reserve of Els Ports, full of verdant plant life and the hum of birds and animals. Keep your eyes on the trees to see what you can spot!
You’ll end the day in Tortosa, a town with years of fascinating history to discover over a chat with locals at dinner.

Day 4 Sant Carles de la Rápita
From Tortosa you cycle along the Ebro River, through orchards and along canals. Little by little, you enter into the flatlands of the Ebro where the rice fields are the protagonists. As you approach the sea, the landscape starts to change into wetlands. Your hotel is in the coastal town of Sant Carles de la Rapita where you can go to the beach, stroll along the harbour, and enjoy a delicious paella.

Day 5 Ride to Elbro Delta
From the beach town of Sant Carles de la Rapita, you enter deep into the nature reserve of the Ebro Delta, where you will cycle along the marshlands and small villages. Birdlife here is so plenty, you will be able to spot flamingos, ibis and many more species. After a day of easy cycling, you arrive at the coastal town of L’Ampolla. The harbour, the beaches and the typical relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere are a real treat.
Finally, at the coast, you’ll find your hotel in L’Ampolla. Tonight, paella and the beach are on order!

Day 6 Delta Ebre Nature Reserve
Ride a loop from L’Ampolla today, touring the Dela de l’Ebre, a triangular peninsula of protected land. You’ll navigate a maze of trails that cut through wetlands, lagoons, and miles of beach. Watch for the massive colonies of migratory birds and abundant sea life.
Back in L’Ampolla, find one last restaurant to celebrate the end of your tour in, feasting on Spanish cuisine’s best and sipping local wine.
