Danube Family Cycling Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Linz
The capital of Upper Austria welcomes you! After arriving in Linz you can Take a leisurely stroll through the amazing historic centre, watch the animals in Linz Zoo, or visit one of the exciting museums. Travellers who booked rental bikes will find them ready in the hotel.

Day 2 Bike Along the Danube to Enns
The first day of cycling on the tour will see you make your way out of the city along the banks of the River Danube. After passing by the local recreation area, the Pleschinger See, houses will become fewer and you will experience more nature. Nearby Lake Ausee would be a great opportunity for a break, as it features an Aqua Park with slides, climbing towers, a slip & slide, and running areas to crank up the fun-factor. Continuing onwards, you will veer slightly away from the course of the River Danube and continue as far as Enns.

Day 3 Visit the Celtic Village in Mitterkirchen
Here in Austria’s oldest town Enns, you can visit the Roman Circular Path, enjoy a water park featuring a 65 meter long slide, or take a stroll through the castle grounds. You will then return to the Danube river bank and continue along the flat cycle path across the idyllic scenery of the Machland. On the way to Grein your next highlight awaits: the outdoor museum Celtic Village in Mitterkirchen. Experience Austria’s prehistory and transport yourself to a different time during a walk through the Celtic Village.

Day 4 Cycle from Grein to Marbach
Grein has historically been referred to as “the Pearl of the Strudengau region”, and it is still an enchanting town today! As a bonus it is also home to a climbing gym and public outdoor swimming pool, offering plenty of opportunity for activities. From this point onwards the Danube River Valley narrows and displays some incredible scenery within the Strudengau-region, all the way to the day’s endpoint in Marbach.

Day 5 Experience the Beautiful Wachau Region
Day 5 of the tour will see you enjoy a brilliant breakfast, before lounging around in the Nibelungenbad pool of Marbach. Today you cycle for just a few kilometres until you reach the scenic Wachau region, the name of which is enough to make anyone’s mouth water due to the diverse regional produce that is grown here, such as apricots and apples. The Wachau region offers delicious regional cuisine on the highest level for the whole family!

Day 6 Cycle to Krems
Today will begin by exploring Melk – the gateway to the Wachau! A visit to the monumental Benedictine monastery is a must before continuing your tour in a different fashion. Here, you will take a break from cycling and instead embark on a fun boat trip to Krems. You can also choose to disembark the boat earlier, in Spitz or Dürnstein, and cycle the final distance, or skip the boat ride altogether and cycle the whole way – the choice is yours! One way or another, beautiful scenery of lovingly laid out vineyards and vast plains awaits you!

Day 7 Train Journey to Tulln and Cycle to Vienna
To start the final day of your adventure you will enjoy a leisurely train journey to Tulln, where you will begin the final cycling stage to Vienna. The feeling is simply overwhelming as you cycle the final kilometres across the Danube Island to reach the endpoint of the holiday in Austria’s capital. Here you can explore countless landmarks and attractions, such as haunted houses, a wax museum, the most renowned Ferris wheel in the world, as well as numerous cafés and the zoo at Schönbrunn. There is so much for the entire family to do here, but Vienna in itself is a unique, magnificent highlight!
