Is this tour for me?
We rate the difficulty of this tour as a 4 / 5. This trip involves 6 – 8 hours of rafting (or walking while carrying the raft in sections) each day in a remote area with lots of physical activity. Rafting is an activity that any reasonably fit person can participate in. However, it is preferred that all participants should feel confident in swimming with a buoyancy vest should they fall out of the raft. The degree of difficulty of the trip will depend on the water levels you encounter. It will be up to the crew, under your guide’s direction to make a successful, exciting trip.

Raft the wild Franklin River in Tasmania with a guided group
Explore one of Australia’s most untouched natural environments while on a wild wilderness experience.
Visit these iconic and awe-inspiring locations, such as Rock Island Bend and the Lost World, along the river.
Enjoy a scenic sailboat trip back along the Gordon River to Strahan.
Experience complete immersion in nature with no phone reception and no crowds.
For many people, Tasmania’s famous Franklin River is synonymous with wilderness conservation! The Franklin is one of the world’s last great wild rivers and it forges through the rugged south west of Tasmania, through deep gorges, quiet pools and magnificent temperate rainforest.
This guided 9-day expedition provides a true wilderness adventure, an experience pioneered back in 1978. Regardless of the river level, you will be in good hands as your professional guides have an exceptional safety record. Despite the remoteness, your guides will ensure that the preparation of delicious meals will exceed all expectations. Any descent of the Franklin is demanding and while previous rafting experience is not required, some wilderness knowledge, along with a sound level of fitness, is essential.
This trip was named the best river journey in the world by Outside Magazine in 2012. Join in on this real wilderness experience of a lifetime!
