Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek Itinerary
Day 1 Transfer to Pokhara
Start your trip by being picked up from your hotel in Kathmandu after breakfast and driving to western Nepal and the beautiful city of Pokhara. Enjoy the fresh air and astounding scenery as you surround yourself with some of the tallest mountains in the world. Spend the afternoon boating on Lake Phewa, where you’ll have a fantastic view of the Annapurna range and its snow-capped peaks reflected in the clear waters of the lake. This is arguably one of the most incredible panoramic mountain views on earth. Stay on the lake as the sun sets then have dinner in a famous lakeside restaurant. Spend the night in a hotel in Pokhara (850 m/2,789’).

Day 2 Trek toTirkhedhunga
Begin your trek today after a 1.5-hour drive from Pokhara to the trailhead at Nayapul. The massive Himalayan peaks will be hidden for most of the day, except for a few glimpses early in the trek. Your journey begins with easy walking on a dirt road that follows a lovely stream surrounded by green mountains. Pass through several local villages before coming to Tirkhedhunga, where you will spend the night.

Distance: 10 km, 4-5 hours, 200 m of ascent

Day 3 Trek to Ghorepani
Today is a strenuous day as you climb 3,300 stone steps and gain about 2,000 m (6,562 ft) in elevation. First cross the stream using a suspension bridge then climb the steep steps up to the Magar settlement of Ulleri. After this, the climb is gentler as you walk through meadows, rhododendron forests, and cultivated fields. Bird watchers will enjoy the variety of birds that call this area home, including redstarts, dippers, kingfishers, and forktails. Continue your trek until you reach Nangethanti and eventually Ghorepani. Spend the night in Ghorepani, where you can expect wonderful views of famous peaks such as Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri I, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Tarke Kang, and Hiuchuli.

Distance: 12 km, 5-6 hours, 2,000 m of ascent

Day 4 Trek to Poon Hill then to Tadapani
Get an early start today for a short, 45-minute climb to Poon Hill where you can watch an incredible Himalayan sunrise. Before your eyes, the mountains of the Annapurna range seem to change color, from a soft pint to a glittering gold, in the light of the rising sun. There are only 14 peaks in the world that are taller than 8,000 m (26,247 ft), and 8 of them are in Nepal. On a clear day, you can see two of these peaks from Poon Hill. After enjoying this marvelous wonder, return to your lodge in Ghorepani for breakfast, then trek onward to Tadapani to spend the night.

Distance: 13 km, 5-6 hours, 200 m of ascent, 400 m of descent

Day 5 Trek to Chhomrung
Descend from Tadapani through a forest to a chorus of birdsong. The trail is a gentle descent for the first 45 minutes, but it then becomes very steep. Cross the terraced fields to reach the Kimrung Khola river, which you will cross via suspension bridge, then continue walking to Gurjung. Here the trail climbs again for about 45 minutes to bring you to Chhomrung (2,170 m / 7,119’). Spend the night in Chhomrung.

Distance: 14 km, 6-7 hours, 1,000 m of descent

Day 6 Trek to Tolka
Trek today from Chhomrung to the Gurung settlement of Tolka. Here you will have a chance interact with local people and learn more about their traditions and culture.

Distance: 11 km, 4-5 hours, 200 m of ascent, 200 m of descent

Day 7 Trek to Pokhara
Enjoy beautiful Himalayan scenery today as you descend from Tolka back to the city of Pokhara.

Day 8 Fly to Kathmandu

Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek Price and Dates
This guided trekking tour in Nepal is run either as a private tour for your group only, however, sometimes there are options to join other groups (please enquire for more information). The pricing depends on the number of people on your group.Pricing below is per person:

Accommodation on the Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trekking Tour
This tour is based in trekking lodges, also called tea houses, along the trek. These accommodations are simple, since there is no road access to reach them, but they are also friendly and full of atmosphere. Most lodges have dining areas that are heated, but the bedrooms are typically unheated. Wooden beds with foam mattresses are provided, but you will need a sleeping bag. Washing and toilet facilities are shared, and some have solar showers available for an additional charge.
In some cases, accommodation listed below may need to be substituted for other, comparable accommodations.

Private rooms are not available in the trekking lodges.

The Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu is the only international airport in Nepal. If arriving in Nepal by air, you must fly to this airport.

The tour ends where it begins, in Kathmandu.
You will be given a complete packing list for your trek upon booking. Plan to layer your clothing to be comfortable at different temperatures. You should be able to add a waterproof layer (jacket and trousers) to stay dry, as well as protect yourself from the sun with a hat and sunglasses. A headlamp with extra batteries is also recommended. You will carry your own daypack (30 L recommended) during the day and your baggage on the trek is limited to 12 kg. You should also have a sleeping bag (rated for -10°C), dry bags, a padlock (to lock your trek bag) and a basic first aid kid. Please respect the traditional Nepalese culture by dressing conservatively (avoid bare shoulders and keep legs covered)
You may need an outlet adapter for any electrical items. Click HERE to find more information. Electricity will not always be available along the trek. Some lodges will have solar powered charging facilities for an additional fee.
Plan to have cash exchanged into Nepali rupees. It is possible to withdraw rupees from ATMs in Kathmandu but not outside the city. An estimated $400-600 USD per person should be sufficient for meals in Kathmandu, drinks, snacks and other personal expenses such as showers and charging batteries in the trekking lodges. This should also cover tips for your guide, porters, and other trek staff.
