Glencoe and the Highlands Walking Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Hike to Loch Tay Overlook
Meet your guide at the Perth Railway Station by 10:30 AM, then transfer from here to the historic local library for an official welcome and tour briefing. After lunch, travel to the village of Killin at the western edge of Loch Tay. Start your first hike on a short, steep trail up to the top of a peak where you’ll find spectacular views overlooking Loch Tay. Return to the glen, then a short transfer brings you to your luxurious Highland hotel.

Day 2 Hike in Glen Lyon
Explore one of Scotland’s most beautiful glens today as you hike in Glen Lyon. Glen Lyon is a native woodland area flanked by steep hills. There are many possibilities for hiking in this area and your guide will choose the best hike to suit the weather conditions and your group’s interests. You may find yourself winding along the floor of the valley, or climbing to a nearby summit.

Day 3 Hike to the Summit of Schiehallion Hill
To conclude your time in Perthshire, climb to the summit of the iconic Schiehallion hill (1,083 m / 3,553 ft). Its name means “Fairy Hill of the Caledonians” and there are a wide variety of myths and legends associated with this well-known landmark. The trail to the top is excellent and the summit view of the Highlands is unforgettable. After the hike, return to the hotel and celebrate with a pint of the namesake Schiehallion ale or sample some local whisky.

Day 4 Zodiac Boat Tour to Glencoe
Leave your hotel after breakfast and travel west to the coastal town of Oban. Here you’ll board a private-charter Zodiac RIB (rigid inflatable boat) boat for a fantastic journey that ends at beautiful Glencoe. Take the scenic route, visiting several different islands where you can go ashore to enjoy empty coves and beaches. Journey through Loch Linnhe where you can watch for native wildlife, including dolphins or porpoises and seals. When you arrive at Loch Leven, a short transfer will bring you to an iconic hotel where you’ll stay for the rest of your tour.

Day 5 Hike from Kinlochleven
Start today’s hike from Kinlochleven village and follow a wonderful trail through the forest. You’ll come to the Grey Mare’s Tail, a thundering 50 foot (15 m) waterfall that you’ll hear long before you see it. Continue along the path to emerge from the forest and discover a remote and peaceful loch that is surrounded by wild moorlands and rugged mountains. As you return, enjoy incredible views of the full length of lovely Loch Leven until it ends in the landmark mountain, the Pap of Glencoe.

Day 6 Hike to a Scenic Overlook in Glencoe
Discover some of Glencoe’s most amazing views today from a peak that is rarely climbed. The faint trail up the open hillside is not highly trafficked. You do not have to wait until you reach the summit for magnificent views, but these vistas only improve as you gain elevation. When you reach the summit, the view overlooking the valley will take your breath away. From here you can see Glencoe’s most iconic sight: the north face of Buachaille Etive Mor. Descend again and visit a well-known pub where you can toast your trip before dinner.

Day 7 Visit Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park
Leave Glencoe today and head south to visit Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Within the park at the small cemetery of Balquhidder Church, you can visit the gravesite of Scottish folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor. Then hike a short trail to the top of Creag an Tuirc to sit beside the landmark cairn to enjoy remarkable views of Loch Voil. Pause here to enjoy the view, reflect on your incredible tour, and say a fond farewell to the Scottish Highlands. Hike down and transfer to Perth to conclude your tour. Please plan your onward travel from the Perth Railway Station for after 4:00 PM.
