Day 1 Arrival in Cividale del Friuli
Your first day is at your leisure, so make your way to Cividale del Friuli and take your time exploring this pretty town in the foothills.

Day 2 Choose Your Hike to Prepotto
To begin your trip, you have a choice of two paths. You can walk to Castelmonte, a small hamlet with impressive views and a stunning 12th-century sanctuary. Alternatively, you can take a shorter walk by following the Alpe Adria Trail. Both finish in Prepotto where you can indulge in a glass of local wine.

Distance: 7 hours, 520m of ascent, 540m of descent
Shorter route: 3-4 hours, 90m of ascent, 110m of descent

Day 3 Walk to Slovenia Villages
Today you’ll walk through the vineyards of the Collio as you hike along the border between Italy and Slovenia. Finish your hike on the hill-top village of Smartno which offers beautiful views of the Carnic Alps and across Friuli.

Distance: 5 hours, 620m of ascent, 460m of descent

Day 4 Journey Through the Vineyards
Your hike today will be through the sprawling vineyards that include some of the famous DOC vines. If you stopped for a tasting or two, we wouldn’t blame you! Your destination is Cormons, which is considered the cultural centre of the Collio.
Tonight, enjoy a glass of wine in the town square and explore at your leisure.

Distance: 4-5 hours, 350m of ascent, 550m of descent

Day 5 Explore the Görzer Collio
The trail today leads you through the hills and vineyards of the Görzer Collio. You’ll hike to Gradisca d’Isonzo, which was a Venitian Fortress and an Austrian prison before it became the interesting town it is today. You can visit the remains of the fortress walls, then visit La Serenissima to find some of the wines made from the vines you saw today!

Distance: 4-5 hours, 100m of ascent, 120m of descent

Day 6 Hike to Duino
On your hike today you’ll leave behind the lush vineyards and head into the karst landscape. Here you’ll find the scars left from WWI as well as underground waterways and river basins.
When you reach Monfalcone you can purchase a ticket on the public bus if you’d like to shorten your route. Otherwise, continue your walk to Duino and its cliff-top castle.

Shorter route: 6 hours, 420m of ascent, 420m of descent

Day 7 Walk the Rilke Trail to Trieste
Begin your day on the famous Rilke Trail. You’ll walk along the cliffs and then on to Trieste. Celebrate your successful journey by exploring the beautiful buildings and main square of the capital city of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Day 8 Departure
Your tour officially ends after breakfast. Trieste is a beautiful city with a lot to explore, and you can choose to book additional hotel nights to extend your stay.
