Hiking Kitzbüler to Three Peaks Itinerary
Day 1 Begin Your Tour in Kitzbühel
Today can be a travel day, or you can arrive early to spend the afternoon in Kitzbühel. Settle in a d acquaint yourself with the town.

Day 2 Hike to Jochberg
This morning you’ll begin your first hike at the foot of the Kitzbüheler Südberge Mountain. You’ll walk by small farms and villages on your way to the Tyrolean village of Aurach. From here you’ll hike to Jochberg, where you’ll spend the night.
Overnight Location: Hotel in Jochberg
Distance: 4-5 hours, 540m of ascent, 380m of descent

Day 3 Mountain Hike to Resterhöhe
A shuttle will take you from your hotel to your starting point today. You’ll begin hiking up into the mountains and experience the tranquil alpine scenery each step of the way. Your path will lead you to the Trattenbachalm and the Hartkaserhöhe before you arrive at the border between Tyrol and Salzburg.
When you reach Resterhöhe you can choose to hike down or purchase a ticket on the Panoramabahn Kitzbüler Alpen II cable car. From the bottom, a bus will take you to Mittersill.

Distance: 5-6 hours, 820m of ascent, 800m of descent
Short route: 4-5 hours, 820m of ascent, 250m of descent

Day 4 Exploration around Matrei
Your day begins with a shuttle to Matreier Tauernhaus. You’ll have a few choices of routes to take to explore the area. First, you can walk from Lake Hintersee to cross over Felbertauern and to the St. Pöltener Hütte before returning to Matrei. Another option is to climb up to the Venedigerblick for tremendous glacial views of Großvenediger. Lastly, you can hike through the mountains to Innergschlöss in a roundtrip hike to Matreier Tauernhaus.
To reach Matrei, your final destination, you’ll take the public bus.

Distance: 5.5-6.5 hours, 650m of ascent, 650m of descent
Alternate route 2: 3 hours, 1240m of ascent, 1040m of descent

Day 5 Walk the Scenic Smuggler’s Route
Take a public bus ride to Mariahilf to begin your hike through the forests to the mountain pastures and Gsieser Törl. Your path follows what was once a smuggler’s route that once ran between Italy and Austria. You’ll enjoy sweeping views that stretch to the Pragser Dolomites.
Since you’ll be walking between many mountain huts which all offer delicious local fare, be sure to stop for dumpling or a strudel.

Distance: 4.5-5.5 hours, 740m of ascent, 740m of descent

Day 6 Gsiesertal – Frondeign – Wahlen– Toblach
The tour leads further and further south and the Dolomites are only a stone‘s throw away. From the Gsiesertal valley, the trail climbs steadily and comfortably to the crossing of Frondeign. The hike is mostly in the shady forest. If you prefer, you can take the more athletic option towards the „Schuieralm“. The path winds its way down to Wahlen. The valley widens and offers a view of the Neunerkofel, Haunold, Dürrenstein and the Höhlenstein valley.

Distance: 3.5-6 hours, 850m of ascent, 810m of descent

Day 7 Final Hike Around the Tre Cime
You get to the Auronzo Hut by public transport (ticket not included). Along the south side of the Three Peaks you first hike towards Lavaredo Hut and then up to the Paternsattel; at 2.454m above sea level, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the 500m high north faces of the Three Peaks. Here the beautiful northern part of the hike begins with the typical image of the Three Peaks. Along a hiking trail you then join the Lange Alm and past the west side back you get to the starting point.
If you want to make the day more sporty, you can climb from the Three Peaks View to the Lange Alm, walk around the Three Peaks and take the bus back to the starting point. (Ticket not included in the price).

Distance: 3-4 hours, 350m of ascent, 350m of descent
Alternate route: 4.5-5.5 hours, 1025m of ascent, 125m of descent
