Mochica Coast and Chavin Cordillera Roadtrip Tour Itinerary
Day 1 The Adventure Begins in Lima
Today your adventure kicks off in Lima where you’ll be picked up from the airport by a member of the local team and transferred to your starting point hotel. Set out to explore the capital of Peru and prepare for the adventure to begin tomorrow!

Day 2 Lima – Caral – Albúferas de Medio Mundo
Meet at 9 am this morning at the rental center where you’ll be briefed by the local team and get to know your RV and supplies. It’s then time to set out mid-morning for your first destination!
It’s highly recommended that you book a guided visit to Caral Archaeological Complex today, just 2 hours away from Lima. Known as the oldest civilization of America, you can take a 22 km trail to this 5,000 year old site and second oldest civilization in the world after Mesopotamia!

Distance: 4.5 hours, 240 km
Day 3 Bound for Chavin de Huantar
Rise today ready to explore and set out following breakfast. You’ll drive north on the Panamerican Highway along the coast until reaching the Paramonga detour to Huaraz , from where you will start heading North East as you make your way up through the Andes.
After 3 hours, you’ll reach Cata, where you’ll detour again to head to Chavin de Huantar. Here, you’ll enter the Huascaran National Park which paves the way to your overnight location. Well worth a visit along the way today is the Paso de la Laguna de Conococha at 4100 meters above sea level and the Laguna de Querococh!
You can opt to upgrade to a hotel tonight if you prefer.

Day 4 Chavin de Huantar Archaeological Complex and Site Museum
Before hitting the road today, it’s recommended that you enjoy a guided tour of the Chavin de Huantar Archaeological Complex and Site Museum. Home to ancient temples, Monolithic Sandeels, and a labyrinth of ancient sites, this is an experience you don’t want to miss!
Later, set out for Caraz with an optional stop at Campo Santo Cementery of Yungay along the way.

Distance: 4 hours, 175 km
Day 5 Long Drive to Paron Lake
Today’s stunning drive will leave you speechless, as the landscapes morph and shift before your eyes. While the path is beautiful, today’s trip will be a narrow and bump one, with several tricky uphill sections.
Enjoy the endless views of snowy peaks and valleys and lagoons painted with turquoise waters. You’ll stand in awe of Artesonraju Snowpeak today, and it’s recommended that you camp here at Paron Lake for the evening, where you can watch the sun go down over the peak that paints the horizon.

Day 6 Paron Lake – Huanchaco
Today’s long drive will have you traversing 290 km over 7 hours. Today the road will take you down via the same road you travelled up on, and you’ll then enter a beautiful and narrow canyon.
You’ll keep driving until you reach the North Pan American Highway where you’ll head north to get to the Trujillo city. Once here, it’s recommended to stay at Huanchaco Beach that is near the city and archaeological complexes and is a great place to learn how to surf!

Day 7 Discover Trujillo Sites
Today is a great day to spend exploring Trujillo and the archaeological sites of Huaca del Sol, Huaca de la Luna from Mochica Culture, and Chan Chan mud citadel from the Chimu Culture. Enjoy a traditional lunch today with a Peruvian Pasa Horse show.

Day 8 Beach Day
Soak up the beach vibes today at Huanchaco or Chicama beaches where you can learn how to surf, or hop right in if you already know how!
After a fun-filled day in the sand, you’ll retire again this evening at the Chicama Surf Camp for another overnight.

Day 9 Onwards to Las Aldas
Begin your return journey to Lima today as you set out south towards Casma. Here you’ll enjoy another overnight on the beach where beautiful views.
You can opt to upgrade to a hotel stay this evening if you’d like.

Day 10 Final Drive to Lima
Today you’ll complete your final drive to Lima where your roadtrip adventure concludes. Return your RV and camper rental and continue with your onwards journey.
