2-Day Mt Olympus Hike Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Hike to mountain hut
Make your way to Litochoro, and meet your guide and the rest of the group in the Litochoro main square. From there, you’ll be transferred to Prionia, the starting point for your hike, situated at an altitude of 1,100 meters. The trail from Prionia to Spilios Agapitos mountain hut is the most popular route on Mount Olympus and is part of the E4 European Path. Prionia is the highest point accessible by car and the majority of the trek takes you through thick forests of pine, beech, and fir trees, which are in excellent condition. The ascent will take you to an elevation of 2,100 meters, where you’ll arrive at the Spilios Agapitos mountain hut and spend the night with your group.
Overnight Location: Spilios Agapitos mountain hut (2.100m / 6,890’)
Distance: 3-4 hours, 1000m of ascent
Meals: None
Day 2 Peak ascent – Mytikas (2,918m)
After an early morning rise and breakfast, the group follows the European path E4 until Skala peak 2,866m. From there you have two options, depending on the dynamics of the team and local weather conditions at the time. Your first and main option is to climb Mytikas, the highest peak in Greece at an altitude of 2,918 meters, following a narrow gorge (this part requires around 1 km of scrambling) using safety equipment. From Mytikas peak you can enjoy a stunning view and marvel the most famous peaks like Stefani (Throne of Zeus) and the Musses Plateau!! Your second option is to reach Skolio 2,911m, the second highest peak in Greece. (4-5 hours hiking and/or scramble on narrow paths with an altitude gain of 800 meters). After summitting you head back, following the same path towards Agapitos Mountain Hut. Spend some time relaxing here and head out the same way that you came.

The climbing season runs between mid-June and late October. Sometimes, the climbing season can start even in mid-May, but this depends on the snow accumulation from winter months. The best time to climb Mount Olympus is beginning of July and beginning of September. Mid-July to late August is also a good period, however it may become too warm, and the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms increases.
Except for the last 200m of vertical climb to the summit of Mytikas (2,919m), which is a UIAA level 3 technical scrambling/climbing route, the rest of the route is an easy hiking path of medium difficulty. Although ropes are not necessary, they are being used for extra safety. The second highest peak of Mount Olympus, Skolio, (2,911m) is only 8 meters lower, offers an equally amazing summit view, a summit logbook, and can be reached by an easy/medium difficulty hiking path, without any steep sections. Finally, on the way towards the summits, there are several impressive drops right next to the otherwise easy hiking path that could be scary for people with fear of heights. They don’t pose any significant danger, as the path is relatively safe.
