Day 1 Welcome to Portugal!

A local representative will welcome you at the Porto Airport upon your arrival. From there, he will drive you to your hotel in Belmonte. Belmonte is a very special little town known for its Crypto-Jewish community that secretly practiced Judaism during times of religious persecution. The town’s Jewish Museum provides insights into this unique cultural aspect.

Day 2 Bike Belmonte Loop

A day full of beautiful landscapes and typical medieval villages awaits you. Begin your journey in Belmonte, exploring the town’s medieval castle, and cycle to the Baloiço da Eirinha, a picturesque swing overlooking the stunning landscapes of the Cova da Beira region. Enjoy panoramic views and a moment of tranquility. Continue your journey to Sortelha, a well-preserved medieval village with stone houses and cobblestone streets. Explore its castle, walls, and charming squares that transport you to a bygone era. Complete the tour by cycling back to your hotel in Belmonte.

Day 3 Bike from Belmonte to Linhares da Beira

The serene waters and peaceful atmosphere make it a delightful spot to pause and appreciate the natural surroundings. Continuing, you’ll pedal through Videmonte, a quaint village that exudes traditional Portuguese charm. Finally, your journey will lead you to Linhares, renowned for its well-preserved castle and narrow streets that invite exploration.

Day 4 Bike from Linhares da Beira to Trancoso

Today, you will be surprised once again. Leaving Linhares da Beira, you’ll pedal through the countryside towards Cortiço. This small village is likely to charm you with its simplicity and traditional architecture. The rural setting provides a peaceful backdrop as you cycle through scenic roads and trails. Continuing on your route, Muxagata awaits with its rustic charm and authentic Portuguese atmosphere. Take a moment to soak in the serene ambiance and perhaps interact with the friendly locals. As you approach Trancoso, the landscape may change, and you’ll find yourself cycling through rolling hills and lush greenery. Trancoso is a historic town surrounded by medieval walls.

Day 5 Today, you will have one of the easiest routes of your trip

As you depart Trancoso, your journey will lead you to the historical plane in Palhais. Continuing, you’ll pedal through Sarzeda, a village that likely enchants with its tranquil setting, providing a genuine experience of rural life. Vila da Ponte is another noteworthy stop along the route. This village will capture your attention with the warmth of its community. Take the time to explore the surroundings, soak in the atmosphere, and appreciate any local points of interest that Vila da Ponte has to offer.

Day 6 Encounter the Albufeira da Barragem do Vilar

Continue through Moimenta da Beira, a town that combines historical charm with modern amenities. As you approach Ucanha, your final destination, you will find yourself cycling through rolling hills and picturesque countryside. Ucanha is known for its medieval bridge and the iconic Ucanha Tower, creating a postcard-worthy scene.

Day 7 Enjoy a spectacular ride towards the Douro River

This is the last cycling day, and you will cross the Douro’s wine country. The hilly slopes are a challenge both for wine-tasting fans and bikers. You will feel like one of the locals, sometimes riding alone along the paths and other times facing the traditional homes scattered across the land. Nearly half of the end of your route today will be just alongside the Douro River. Take your time to appreciate it, and if the weather allows, go for a swim. The day will finish in Peso da Régua, an important town on the Douro riverside, full of history and traditions about wine production and celebration.
