Day 2 Cycle to Bad Tölz
Indulge in a filling German breakfast before collecting your bike and starting the first ride of the tour. Today’s route leads along the Isar River, past monasteries, and through many traditional Bavarian villages.
You’ll reach Bad Tölz with plenty of time to find an inviting tavern and taste some local brew.
Overnight Location: Hotel in Bad Tölz
Distance: 6 hours, 60km
Meals: Breakfast
Day 3 Ride to Maurach, Austria
Have a big breakfast to fuel up for a long ride today. Start riding along a river until Lake Sylvenstein comes into view, and then continue riding through Karwendel Nature Park.
Midday, you cross the Austrian border and pass by Lake Achen, a gorgeous lake nestled amid great peaks. In the evening, reach Maurach, a breathtaking town tucked in a basin in the Alps. (Note: depending on availability, you might stay in Jenbach.)
Overnight Location: Hotel in Maurach (or Jenbach)
Distance: 7 hours, 68-77km
Meals: Breakfast
Day 4 Ride to Rio di Pusteria
From Jenbach or Schwaz you cycle on the cycling path – the river Inn along – into Tyrol’s capital Innsbruck. Visit the historic city with its famous „Goldene Dachl“ (Golden Roof) or go on an excursion on Mount Isel with its ski-jump or the Tirol Panorama. The demanding part from Innsbruck to the Brennero pass, border between Austria and Italy and at the same time watershed and cultural axis, will be done by transfer (train or bus, included). Only a few buildings remind of the former border between the two European countries. From the Brennero you cycle along the old railway track to Vipiteno and further on to Fortezza and Rio di Pusteria.
Overnight Location: Hotel in Rio di Pusteria
Distance: 9.5 hours, 88-96km
Meals: Breakfast
Day 5 Cycle to Villabassa/Dobbiaco
Enjoy breakfast with plenty of Italian espresso before heading out today. You’ll ride along the Rienz River, admiring its emerald waters that wind through South Tyrol. Feel free to stop at a couple of museums to break up your ride. An old castle in Brunico hosts one of the museums—a sight to see in itself.
Keep pushing alongside the river until you reach Villabassa or Dobbiaco for the night (depending on availability). If you rented a bike from the tour company, you can pop into their shop in Dobbiaco for a tune-up if needed.
Overnight Location: Hotel in Villabassa or Dobbiaco
Distance: 5–6 hours, 50–55km
Meals: Breakfast
Day 6 Ride through the Dolomites
Today’s ride is almost too spectacular for words. After breakfast, you’ll ride along the old railway that cuts through the Dolomites, a UNESCO-recognized area with numerous impressive peaks, lakes, and rivers. Visit Drei Zinnen (Three Peaks), an iconic image, and continue downhill to the enchanting village of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Continue downhill with massifs on both sides, turn into a valley, and arrive in Pieve di Cadore in time for dinner.
Overnight Location: Hotel in Pieve di Cadore
Distance: 6–7 hours, 60–65km
Meals: Breakfast
Day 7 Cycle along the Pieve River to Conegliano
Enjoy an early breakfast and get going. Following the tranquil Piave River for a short time, you’ll soon connect to a newer bike trail and continue to Longarone. This town was rebuilt in 1963 after a flood washed away the village completely.
Conegliano awaits as your destination this evening, and treat yourself to a glass of prosecco—this is where it’s produced!
Overnight Location: Hotel in Conegliano
Distance: 8 hours, 80 km
Meals: Breakfast
Day 8 Ride into the Floating City of Venice
Bid farewell to the Alps this morning as you set off in the direction of the Adriatic Sea. Appreciate the flatter terrain as you draw nearer to Venice, first stopping in “little Venice” if you wish (Treviso).
Follow the Sile River and soon one of the most famous cities worldwide, Venice, comes into view. If you have time, take a canal tour of this indisputably dreamy city. Spoil yourself with a smorgasbord of Venetian food and wine to celebrate your week of riding from Germany to Italy.
Overnight Location: Hotel in Venice
Distance: 9.5 hours, 95km
