Self-Guided Slovenia Bikepacking Gravel Ride Itinerary
Day 1 Start Your Cycling Adventure
Your tour begins with a welcome meeting in Ljubljana before you take a transfer to the Maribor–Pohorje ski hill. Here you’ll begin your first gravel ride through the mountains to the village of Slovenj Gradec.
Tonight you’ll enjoy a quiet stay at a charming local farmhouse.
Overnight Location: Guesthouse in Slovenj Gradec
Distance: 6-7 hours, 75km, 2180m of ascent and 2980m of descent

Day 2 Cycle to Mount Peca
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the farmhouse before you start your ride. Today you’ll be grinding the gravel trails through beautiful mountain forests to the Mount Peca Hut.
Tonight you’ll have dinner and spend the night at the mountain hut.
Overnight Location: Mountain hut in Peca
Distance: 6-7 hours, 50km, 2640m of ascent and 1660m of descent

Day 3 Alpine Valley Ride
Wake up to the fresh mountain air and continue your ride through the mountains. The trail will be a little easier today as you descend into the spectacular Logarska Valley. This glacial valley is one of the most beautiful in the country, and you’ll love the view of the rocky peaks rising above the emerald green valley floor.

Distance: 5-6 hours, 48km, 1570m of ascent and 2200m of descent

Day 4 Cycling the Karavanke Mountains
Today the gravel trails before you lead through the Karavanke mountain range. Enjoy riding along the scenic grass-covered slopes as you grind Kofce and Šija mountains.
Your route today goes as far as Šija, where you’ll find another mountain hut to visit for the night.

Distance: 6-7 hours, 66km, 2100m of ascent and 1950m of descent

Day 5 Mountain Ride to Kranjska Gora
Hop on your bike in the morning to begin the first leg of your journey from Mount Šija to beautiful Zelenica, then follow the alpine trails high above iconic Lake Bled to Valvasor Hut. You’ll finally descend into Mojstrana from here.
Next, you’ll ride to the stunning Kranjska Gora ski resort and on to the Tonka mountain hut. You’ll stay here tonight and enjoy the views across the Julian Alps.

Distance: 6-7 hours, 69km, 1980m of ascent and 2165m of descent

Day 6 Grind the Mountain Pass
Continue your exploration of the Julian Alps as you ride from your mountain hut to the charming town of Bovec. Your route will take you across the scenic Vršič mountain pass and into the lush green Soča Valley.
Tonight, you’ll enjoy another stay at a local farmhouse.

Distance: 5-6 hours, 48.5km, 1250m of ascent and 1380m of descent

Day 7 Explore the Emerald River Valley
Your ride through the Soča Valley will be an exploration of greens. The spectacular green carpet over the Kobariški ridges will give way to the gorges and turquoise waters of Tolmin. As you ride to the mountain hut near Tolmin, you’ll definitely be tempted to stop and admire the landscape in awe.

Distance: 6-7 hours, 58.5km, 1450m of ascent and 1180m of descent

Day 8 Mountain Wilderness Ride
The route today will continue to lead you into the stunning mountain wilderness. Enjoy the spectacular views as you ride the alpine roads from Tolmin to Cerkno. Peaks will surround you on this lovely stretch.
You’ll finish today’s stage at a farm guesthouse in Zakojca.

Distance: 5-6 hours, 32km, 1160m of ascent and 660m of descent

Day 9 Pathway to the Capital
After a delicious breakfast at the farmhouse, you’ll head out for another amazing day of cycling. Take some time to visit the picturesque medieval town of Škofja Loka. Then you’ll continue your ride to Ljubljana, the nation’s capital city. End the tour with a bang (or a generous meal and a pint) and enjoy the evening here.

Day 10 Tour Concludes
