Styrian Salzkammergut Walking Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Bad Goisern
Arrive in Bad Goisern, Austria, and head to your hotel to check in before enjoying the remaining hours of the day at your leisure.

Day 2 Head to Altaussee
Take a short taxi transfer from Bad Goisern to the hiking paradise Predigstuhl. You walk past rustic cabins, alpine pastures and impressive summits into the heart of the Ausseerland. The alpine field Hütteneckalm, with stunning views of the UNESCO heritage region ‘Hallstatt Dachstein’, is only one place to invite you for a break, together with the unique Blaa-alp. You will then walk to the beautiful village of Altaussee, where you will stay overnight. Numerous artists spend their summer here and enjoy the charming landscape with its limestone rocks, expansive forests and flower fields.

Day 3 Visit Lake Altaussee and Lake Toplitzsee
You will start your day’s walk by visiting Lake Altaussee with a view of the imposing Loser Mountain. You will then head to the next lake of the day by crossing the Tressen saddle – of course, you will have endless mountainous panoramic views. You will then reach Gößl by Lake Grundlsee along a path with fantastic views. Finally, don’t miss out on visiting the mystical Lake Toplitzsee, where rumours proclaim some hidden treasure. Or go for a row in a traditional wooden boat.

Day 4 Enjoy Tauplitzalm
According to Heinrich Harrer, the route takes you along a fast-flowing mountain stream and through extensive alluvial areas out of the valley to Ödernalm, the nicest spot on the planet. After one last ascent over the Törl, you will arrive at the charming, almost magical lake. Soon afterwards, you will arrive at Tauplitzalm, located on a high plateau.

Distance: 13km, ascend 990m, descend 150m

Day 5 Walk through the Trauplitzalm
The Tauplitzalm is one of Europe’s loveliest high plateaus and has many walking opportunities. The six lakes walk takes you on a route with great views and wonderfully located mountain lakes. A walk to one of the many peaks in the Tote Gebirge mountain range is an extraordinary experience. The area is well-known for its large variety of fauna and flora ranging from the snow roses to gentian to alpine rose flowers. Maybe you will also spot some chamois native to the steep mountain slopes.

Day 6 Head back to Bad Goisern
Head over the Hochalm, where you will walk past lake Steirersee to lake Schwarzensee, tucked away among high mountains. Downstream through the forest and through blooming narcissus fields, you walk to Tauplitz. Head back to Bad Goisern by train.
