Sumba Island Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Explore Weekuri Lake and Mandorak Beach
Upon arrival at the airport of Tambolaka in Waitabula you’ll meet your guide and begin your journey on Sumba Island!
First up, you’ll head to the crystal clear waters of Weekuri Lake where you can relax a little following lunch and cool off with a refreshing dip. Then, set out to stroll around the rocks and reef and spot the ocean sparkling in the distance. Later, head to Mandorak Beach to soak up some more of the beauty here before heading to Lendongara Hill to catch a picture-perfect sunset.

Day 2 Beaches and Villages of Sumba Island
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before setting out on today’s first adventure to visit the museum of Rumah Budaya Sumba—the island’s cultural center. Built-in the style of a traditional Sumbanese house, the surrounding grounds are dotted with Marapu stone carvings. Among other artifacts, the collection includes ikat, stone and wood carvings, traditional jewellery and a handful of everyday items you can find here.
Up next, you’ll head to the village of Ratenggaro in the Kodi area. Here you will see the traditional high rooftops houses which are all made traditionally by hand. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members.
After soaking up village life in Ratenggaro, you’ll head to Watulandong and Bwanna Beach where you can see the beautiful view of both beaches from one point. Sink your toes into the warm white sand and enjoy some R&R accompanied by the salty sea breeze. The rest of the day you can enjoy at your leisure before heading back to your hotel in Tambolaka.

Day 3 Disover West Sumba
This morning following breakfast you’ll set out to explore West Sumba, with a stop in Waikelo Sawah along the way. Enjoy the beautiful views of the endless rice fields and take in the beauty of a unique water cave found here. The adventure continues as you head to the village of Praijing, a traditional village on a hill and surrounded by rich greenery. Stroll around the village and rub shoulders with the locals before continuing to the Lapopu Waterfall. A short hike across a bamboo bridge will allow you to see the cascading waterfall up close.
Later after lunch, you’ll head to Praigoli Village to see the Kajiwa Stone and Pasola Field. Not far from Praigoli village is the hilltop Waigali village. Enjoy incredible views from here and learn about the Andung Skull Tree before heading back to your hotel in West Sumba.

Day 4 Adventures in the Anakalang District of Central Sumba
After breakfast, you’ll drive to the Anakalang district in Central Sumba to visit Pasunga Village. The village is well known for its traditional Sumbanese houses as well as its graves.
Following this visit, continue to “Bukit Wairinding”, which means; the Hills of Wairinding, an area surrounded by endless greenery and rolling hills You will be looking at green and endless hills. Enjoy the views here before continuing to visit Prailliu Village, a unique village found in the center of the city of Waingapu. This village has the traditional Sumbanese houses and a gallery where you can find a lot of Ikat patterns and some souvenirs made by locals. Up next you’ll head to the top of Persaudaraan Hill where you’ll unlock incredible views across the whole island of Sumba. The last stop today will be at Walakiri beach where you can relax on the sandy shores and enjoy the sunset.
